Fringe Event - South Wales Cyber Security Cluster Meeting

DATE:
Tuesday 19 September

TIME:
2pm to 4pm

VENUE:
National Cyber Security Academy in Newport, South Wales

We are excited to announce that the South Wales Cyber Security Cluster will be hosting a director from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC, a part of GCHQ) at the Digital Festival “fringe event” on Tuesday 19th September.

For some time now, the various cyber teams at GCHQ have been becoming more and more open, forging relationships with the business community and academia to drive the UK's National Cyber Security Strategy forward as quickly and effectively as possible. We have seen many programmes and initiatives, such as the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Partnership (CiSP) with the Police, Cyber Security Centres for Excellence in Universities and the Cyber Essentials Scheme for SMEs etc.

The merging of many of these departments and teams into a single co-ordinated entity - the National Cyber Security Centre - has seen even more openness and some really exciting new initiatives which would not have seemed possible only a short time ago.

A director of the NCSC, whose identity will be revealed on the day, is going to describe the evolution of the NCSC and share some of the recent activities and successes such as the Cyber First programme to encourage secondary school children to take a healthy interest in cyber security and the incredible Cyber Incubator which opens the doors of GCHQ in Cheltenham to cyber security start-ups.

This meeting will be a rare opportunity to learn more about the NCSC and what better place to hold this meeting than Wales’ own National Cyber Security Academy building in Newport.

It is also an exciting time for the Academy as the new cohort of under-grads begin the first 3yr course and the building starts to gear itself up to provide a collaboration centre for Welsh cyber companies, with resident businesses, touch-down areas and project space (more information on the day!).

There are plenty of News & Opportunities to announce about initiatives in Cardiff, Swansea and Krakow as well.

So, make sure you get this Cluster meeting in your diary nice and early on Tuesday 19th from 2pm to 4pm at the NCSA, City Campus in Newport.
